Project Overview

The Horn of Africa is facing it's worst draught since the last four decade. The looming catastrophy to human and livestock alike, is the increasing daily dehydration to death around communities like Danane in Ethiopia, Jilib in Somalia, and Kalokol in Kenya; where women walk over 30Km daily under scorching weather condition, in search of drinking water for their families, and livestock. There are over 10 million people at risk of dehydration to death in the Horn of Africa which includes: Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya. Between December last year and February 2022, over 1.5 million heads of cattle and unspecified number of headers have died of dehydration. We must act now to save lives.

This Project is seeking $8.6m funding to provide urgent access to daily clean drinking water in close proximity to the three most vulnerable communities: Danane, Jilib, and Kalokol for 12 months, and to provide farmers with draught-resistant seeds to revive their socioeconomic life, pending when the rains return. In each of the communities, 300 households and their livestock would be provided with daily access to safe drinking water to quench extreme thirst and dehydration, hence reducing daily lose of human lives and livestock by 50%.
