Mpofu community is one of the communities that lack access to safe and potable water in the Hhohho region. This was a persisting challenge for the past years. The community use to have access to potable water through a reticulated water supply system with 6 standpipes that was supported by government under the Rural water supply unit. This water supply system uses to source water from a borehole located at Ntabezimphisi which is approximately 8 km from Mpofu Unit 1 community

Although there was a water supply system set up by the government, the water source has already been depleted due to the increasing demand for water from the growing population and the decreasing rainfall intensity caused by climate change.

This project aimed at improving access to clean water for 106 households of Mpofu unit 1 through the rehabilitation of the existing water supply system including drilling of a high yielding borehole and installation of a solar powered pump to improve the sustainability of the system.

The project covered a population of 496 people from 106 households. The population comprised of about 53,8% females and 46.2% males of which 0.04% of the people are living with different types of disabilities. This project area has 2 churches and 1 national care point which support about 35 children.
