TCCC helped fund a sediment capping project of a confined disposal facility on the Leslie Street Spit. Leslie Street Spit had been historically used for industrial and shipping activities and disposal of trash from the construction industry and sediments dredged from the Keating Channel, and the confined disposal facility had exceeded the Canadian Environmental Quality Guidelines for contaminated sediments. This project capped 9.5 ha of the facility, thus eliminating contaminant exposure to aquatic species, eliminating transport of contaminants from sediments to water column. and enabling habitat restoration in Tommy Thompson Park, located on the Leslie Street Spit.
