LNRMI is an independent institution registered under section 58(1) of the Partnership Act. 1932 in October 2008. The core objective of the institute is to help create and implement policies that foster sustainable and enhanced livelihoods. LNRMI aims to conduct high quality research and consultancy and to become the most referred and consulted research organization for policy and action research in the area of Livelihoods and Natural esources Management, within and outside India. LNRMI believes in adopting rigorous methods right from the time of data collection to the point of triangulating the research results. A variety of quantitative and qualitative methods are used in all the projects that LNRMI under takes so that the results and findings of our projects stand the tests of rigour and reason. The institute has gained reputation for quality research among its research partners and collaborators, helping the institute get new projects through peer references. During the past four years LNRMI has been involved in conducting research independently as well as in collaboration with reputed organisations. Some of the major and important projects include: i) Impacts of meso-scale Watershed Development in Andhra Pradesh (India) and comparative catchments in Australia; ii) Adaptive Capacity of Farmers to Climate Variability in Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh and India; iii) WASHCost (assessing the cost of providing water, sanitation and hygiene services in rural and peri-urban areas); iv) Improve climate forecasting to enhance food security in Indian ocean rim countries; v) Impact assessment of watershed development programmes in Rajasthan; v) Impact assessment of preparatory phase IWMP (integrated watershed Management programme) in Maharashtra; etc. LNRMI has been collaborating with reputed international institutions like CSIRO, Australia; IRC, The Netherlands; Edith Cowen University and Australian National University, Australia; IWMI, Colombo and Hyderabad; NIRD; CRIDA; NGRI; ANGRAU, Hyderabad. Our funders include: Australian Centre for International Agriculture Research (ACIAR); Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF); Australian Aid (AUSAid); Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, etc. LNRMI has also acquired reputation for its ability to conduct inter-disciplinary work in the areas of climate change adaptation and Meso scale watershed impacts. LNRMI considers this as its unique strength and looks forward to taking this approach to other fields of policy research.
