CESPAD is a Kenyan NGO whose mission is to narrow the gap in accessing opportunities so that all people can enjoy a better life in a transformed society by stopping the degradation of the planet's environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. CESPAD was registered in 2003 and has been leading advocacy and awareness campaigns. It has been involved in alignment of the Water Policy and Water Bill to the New Constitution with respect to provision of water and sanitation services and financing mechanism for rural settings. CESPAD has also been involved in implementation of water and sanitation, health, education, poverty and gender programs in Kenya. In addition CESPAD has been committed to the understanding of the social economic and cultural dynamics that have led to decline in people’s living standards, and help start a national movement for self-criticism and forward looking development by the people with the support of their Government, private sector, civil society and other partners. CESPAD has a very broad institutional mandate for programming and operationalization. Clarification of its mandate is based on what is provided in the current legal and social contexts in Kenya. CESPAD has been carrying its activities around the following main objectives: i. Building and strengthening integrated water resource Management framework at county and National Levels. ii. Influencing good governance in the water sector iii. Improving knowledge management on integrated water resources management in Athi river catchment area. iv. Establish, support and facilitate innovative livelihood programmes geared towards pursuit of sustainable development in the community. CESPAD focuses on creating a more just society where everyone’s livelihood is secure, protected, facilitated and development with the principles of social justice. Its vision is to see a world where society offers not just hope but actual improved livelihoods.
