Future 500 is a non-profit consultancy that builds trust between companies, advocates, investors, and philanthropists to advance business as a force for good.

Our organization formed in 1995 as a venue for corporations and environmental NGOs to debate the systemic dangers to over four million acres of old-growth forests. With our guidance, representatives from Mitsubishi and Rainforest Action Network moved from conflict to collaboration, establishing new lumber procurement standards that were ultimately adopted by over 400 companies around the world. Since then, we've helped countless corporations, activists, advocates, investors, philanthropists, and policy makers engage one another in unique and meaningful ways, all with a goal of systemically tackling society's most pressing challenges. Across myriad issues, sectors, and geographies – from beverage container recycling in California to human rights in Sudan – we've built our success on the belief that the future of responsible business begins with finding common ground in uncommon places.

Our team of stakeholder engagement experts hold professional backgrounds in corporate sustainability, clean energy, responsible investing, NGO advocacy, and political activism. With support from our board members , senior fellows , and a global network of affiliate consultancies, we help our partners align power with purpose and navigate the day's most pressing environmental and social challenges. We have offices in San Francisco, CA and Portland, OR

Future 500's water-related work focuses on helping companies advance water stewardship best practices across the value chain through better engagement with diverse stakeholders. Notable clients include Fortune 1000 companies from the food & beverage, CPG, oil & gas, apparel, and chemicals sectors. In addition to our corporate clients, Future 500 partners with NGOs and multi-stakeholder coalitions to accelerate collective action to address shared water challenges. We are a founding member of the Alliance for Water Stewardship, and ally of the California Water Action Collaborative. We've also facilitated dialogues on water policy, including "Charting New Waters: Agriculture, the Supply Chain and Conservation Policy" in conjunction with the Johnson Foundation at Wingspread.
