In our factories located across India, we support water efficiency projects through the central capital programme. During 2017, we invested nearly 1.7m Euro through our sustainability capital programme into the sites located in the Ganges Basin. These projects include processing improvements to the tea process, metering, geothermal, boiler improvements, condensate recovery & cooling tower optimisation. The 2017 capital projects are expected to deliver over 42,000m3 in annual water savings. Many of these projects deliver on water savings, as well as carbon and waste. Hindustan Unilever Foundation is supporting community interventions in 340 villages spread across 13 districts, being implemented by our partner agencies. As of 2017 the interventions have reached around 27000 small and marginal farmers with cumulative water savings of about 10 billion litres. The interventions focus on bringing about behaviour change among farmers – such as adopting agricultural practices that involve more efficient use of water, and promoting the use of organic inputs and bio-pesticides.
