Proactive measures included: ongoing water monitoring, containment of any ARD generation on the old tailings facilities, water-treatment solutions that purify surplus fissure and process water to a potable standard, removal of the old South Shaft waste rock dump, revegetation of the mine’s environmental footprint, underground ARD generation is well managed during the operational phase through ongoing pumping of underground water to surface water treatment facilities.
