In the state of Hidalgo, one of Mexico’s most arid regions where for water, indigenous communities there rely primarily on small springs, which are often polluted, and in some cases villagers have to walk nearly two hours to reach them. To face this issue, the EcoAlberto project was lunched in 2011 , which is the result of a partnership between the Porvenir Foundation, HOD Mexico, the Mexican governmentand danone.communities. Its objective is to give the indigenous communities of the El Alberto region of Mexico access to clean, inexpensive water and create jobs for women in these villages. In fact, water is processed in a filtration plant then distributed by truck in 140 containers. 200 women earn income by distributing the water. EcoAlberto will focus on increasing processing capacity, distributing safe water in schools and in testing distribution in urban shantytowns At the end of 2016, the project supplied drinking water to nearly 30,000 people.
