Project Overview

In addition, following the success of our water replenishment projects in the UK we expanded our partnership with WWF to the Camargue region in France. The project, run in partnership with The Coca-Cola Company, leveraged $850,500 in funding from the Coca-Cola foundation to restore the natural flow of the River Rhone and form a key part of our commitment to replenish 100 percent of the water we use in areas of water stress by 2020. The Camargue Ramsar wetland is known for lagoonal habitats, wetlands and birdlife, notably flamingos. The Camargue has been heavily modified by river channeling, agriculture, and salt harvesting.

Project Results

The project will restore some natural flows and interconnections between lagoons. Reconnect and old water channel to bring fresh water into the wetland. Due to be completed in 2015. We estimate that we will be able to replenish 1,700 million litres per year, measured as the measured volume which flows along the restored channel and into the target lagoon.
