The project seeks to reduce the food insecurity of the rural population of Guimbichu, which suffers from cyclical famines because of droughts, a consequence of climate change, on their crops and livestock. Food shortages affect women, who are responsible for feeding their families, and girls more severely because of their unequal position in communal society, where access to food is hierarchical.

The project vindicates the fundamental role of women in food security and promotes their access to training and the necessary inputs to develop their productive activity of vegetable growing, which is not highly valued by men even though it provides some variety to the family diet.

The community will have access to drinking water, which will be managed and administered by a committee made up mostly of women, working in coordination with the local water office. Agricultural promoters will be trained to lead the development of irrigated organic vegetable farming, which will be started by 20 women from Guimbichu and will substantially increase the quantity and variety of food available in the community. The population will be trained in issues related to hygiene, nutrition, and gender equity, so that access to water and food will have the maximum impact on the health of all.

The project promotes the organizational strengthening of the women of Guimbichu by facilitating their access to their own meeting space, the women's tukul, which will be built with its implementation. A recognized research team will systematize the experience and study the impact of access to water and the autonomous development of productive activities on variables related to women's empowerment (self-esteem, capacity for future projection, generation of expectations, social and personal development, etc.).
