The overall objective of the project is to improve the living conditions of the population at risk of suffering from Fluorosis in the populations of Dida and Obe, in the Ethiopian Rift Valley. The specific objective of the project is to provide safe water to the population using the new technology of the zeolites to remove the fluoride from the water through the construction of two water treatment plants. These water treatment plants have been installed in the localities of Dida and Obe, in the Ethiopian Rift Valley according to the project signed with the FMoWIE in May 2017.

NGO Amigos de Silva (AdS) after the signature of the Project, hired a professional expert from the Addis Ababa University, Dr. Taju Sani to follow up the project including the construction works and the installation of the zeolite filters. Dr Taju assisted in the technical preparation of the bid documents as a member of AdS in order to fulfill all the requirements according to the law. The final winner of the bid after checking all the documents and evaluate the experience of the companies was GUTEMA ABIYOT & THEIR FRIENDS GC. The construction started in December 2018.

The construction of the two treatment plants has accumulated some delays related to the local conflict between the population in the area. These conflicts had interrupted the construction works on several occasions. These issues created an accumulated delay in the construction works according to the original schedule and some of the materials of the construction were difficult to find for the lack of foreign currency of the country also. These delays have affected the post-follow-up activities of the evolution in the progress of the treatment plants and the adjustments works on it. We cannot forget that this is a new technology to remove fluoride from the water and the follow-up is one of the most important activities of the project.
