Chalk Creek is one of the largest networks of intact habitat for the at-risk Bonneville Cutthroat trout. It suffers from habitat fragmentation, stream dewatering, and habitat alteration caused by agricultural land use. An irrigation diversion in the South Fork of Chalk Creek dewaters the stream each summer, blocking migrations of Bonneville Cutthroat trout and other native fish. This project relocated a point of diversion to re-water a portion of South Fork Chalk Creek and removed a channel-spanning fish migration barrier, thus reconnecting approximately 23 miles of stream habitat to the mainstem of Chalk Creek.
