Project Overview

Ecosystem restoration on volcanic slopes of the valley by planting native trees. The project also added compost to the soil to support tree establishment, and constructed pits and earthen dams to retain water for the trees as they were establishing and to help with groundwater recharge. Over six years, the Izta-Popo project team planted 490,000 trees, and installed 91,000 pits and 430 earthen banks to preserve water on over 750 Ha.
