Woolworths Holdings Limited is an investment holding company, listed on the JSE Limited since 1997. It operates mainly through two subsidiaries, Woolworths (Proprietary) Limited and Country Road Limited and through a joint venture, Woolworths Financial Services (Proprietary) Limited. Caring for our planet and the people we support through our business has always been important to Woolworths. We consolidated all our efforts to support both people and planet under one programme in 2007, which we called our Good Business Journey. The good business journey is an acceleration of Woolworths ongoing commitment to managing the business’ impact as it continues to grow and meet the increasing needs of South African consumers, and originally specifically defined a 5-year plan to 2012 in key areas. It is the result of a comprehensive and systematic review of the way Woolworths addresses the issue of sustainable growth within the context of the changing social and environmental needs of South Africa, incorporating a series of challenging targets and commitments. Through this programme we have learnt how to tread more lightly on our planet and contribute to issues affecting all South Africans.
