The agreement to formally establish the Orange-Senqu River Commission (ORASECOM) was signed on 3 November 2000 in Windhoek, Namibia, by the Ministers responsible for Water Affairs in the four basin states, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and South Africa. The Commission comprises of Council as its highest body, and various Task Teams who manage projects and provide technical input on water issues. Each basin state is represented by one delegation comprising three commissioners. The Commission advises member states on the development, utilisation and conservation of water resources of the Orange-Senqu River Basin. ORASECOM is currently working in close collaboration with its cooperating partners to consolidate a basin-wide Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) plan. In parallel, a number of field projects and public private partnerships are being initiated in the basin to tackle water management and conservation challenges as well as awareness-raising.
