Nazava Water Filters is a social enterprise that produces high quality, affordable ceramic water filters that empower households (read women!) to purify their own rain, well, river, or tap water, without boiling or using electricity. Our vision is that everyone, everywhere has access to safe and affordable drinking water within their house. We focus on marketing the best available water filters for the lowest possible price, especially targeting the base of the pyramid. Nazava purified water is nine times cheaper than bottled water and three times cheaper than boiling on LPG. The benefits are three fold: Improved health, increased average disposable income per household of $68 and reduced CO2 emissions. Nazava started in Indonesia in 2009, in 2021 we started a sister company in Kenya and our products have been exported to over 32 countries worldwide. To date Nazava has impacted over 600,000 people worldwide, with safe affordable drinking water.

The Nazava Water Filter features an award winning, human centered design with a volume of 16 liters which is sufficient for the daily needs of a family of 5. The Nazava Prot3ct ceramic filter element is extremely durable, lasting 7000 liters or about 3 years. It is certified by the World Health Organization, the Kenyan Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and has been tested in over 32 international laboratories.

The burden of providing drinking water is often carried by women. Thus, Nazava saves women time as they no longer need to collect fuelwood or boil to purify their water. Women who use Nazava save 3 working weeks per year and the enterprise has been featured on the Care Economy Knowledge Hub. Nazava is led by a female founder, more than half of Nazava Kenya’s staff are women, and 60% of management positions are held by women.

Nazava is also a strong player in the humanitarian market, having been deployed in disaster response efforts in countries such as Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines, and Mozambique. Nazava was recently selected as a top innovator in the World Economic Forum’s Humanitarian Impact and Resilience Challenge.

By 2030 Nazava aims to be the number one water filter for the base of the income pyramid, impacting 10 million people, including 2 million Kenyans with safe, affordable drinking water. This will also result in $169 million in cumulative savings and over 500 million years in cumulative time saved by women.
