Project Overview

The Brazil Water Guardian Project was launched in 2011 and completed in 2016. The project in partnership with one of our tobacco leaf suppliers (Universal Leaf) and the University of Santa Cruz do Sul, aimed to improve the volume and quality of water supplied to the Rio Pardo basin, which would ultimately become the main water source. The Brazil Water Guardian Project was launched in 2011 and completed in 2016. The project in partnership with one of our tobacco leaf suppliers (Universal Leaf) and the University of Santa Cruz do Sul, aimed to improve the volume and quality of water supplied to the Rio Pardo basin, which would ultimately become the main water source. This pioneering Water Guardian project has proved so successful that the local authority announced plans to take over the project and offer tax incentives to participants to ensure the scheme has a long-term future.
