Project Overview

As part of CCEP’s This is Forward Sustainability Action Plan, we have a target to replenish 100% of the water used in our beverages, where it is sourced from areas of water stress, by 2020. As part of CCEP’s This is Forward Sustainability Action Plan, we have a target to replenish 100% of the water used in our beverages, where it is sourced from areas of water stress, by 2020. In Great Britain, our SVAs have shown that we operate in areas of water stress in the South East of England –in the River Thames and Anglian River basins. Coca Cola replenishes the water used in its beverages through projects such as reforestation, protecting aquifers, revitalising rivers and restoring wetlands and natural habitats. Our first project, to protect and replenish the Rivers Cray and Nar, was followed by a three-year partnership currently underway in the Cam-Ely-Ouse and Broadlands river catchments in East Anglia. Intensively used for growing sugar beet, the river catchments suffer from agricultural pollution, failing to meet European Water Directive targets. We are replenishing water in these catchments and working with farmers to help them establish more soil-sensitive farming practices to reduce the negative impact on local rivers. We also engage with policy makers and stakeholders on water stewardship and track policy developments across the EU and at a country level. We also work with local stakeholders to manage any local water related risks, including regarding the sustainability of the water supply, as well as their approach towards water protection, infrastructure management, and their long-term development plans and priorities.

Project Results

Replenish 100% of water used in our beverages by 2020 in water stressed basins.
