Project Overview

Desolenator delivered the world’s first scaled solar thermal desalination plant last year for world-leading utility, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), driving net-zero desalination at scale.

The plant is currently producing 25m^3 of water/day and is a global showcase demonstrating the potential of new partnerships to meet our global water crisis in a sustainable way. The project recently won Hybrid Project of the Year at the MESIA Solar Awards 2023.

Desolenator is a transformative approach to water provisioning, harnessing the photons of the sun, as well as thermal rays, to transform seawater or brackish water into safe drinking water or ultrapure water(UPW) at scale with zero harm to the planet.

• Patented PVT panels harvest 4x more solar energy than traditional PV
• Running 24/7 continuous off-grid, making 25m with a 100KW electric array
• Zero harmful chemicals and Zero-Liquid discharge

Quote: "According to our plans, 100% of desalinated water will be produced by a mix of clean energy that uses both renewable energy and waste heat by 2030.
We are pleased to collaborate with Desolenator to pioneer this innovative approach to desalination, as part of our Public-Private Partnerships under the Dubai Future Accelerator Program. At Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, we work in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the
energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050."

– His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA
