Project Overview

In Honduras, Hurricane ETA was devastating. It left many families homeless and without safe water for over a month. Xylem Watermark, together with Diseine (our distributor in Honduras), Planet Water and DHL, made it possible to carry, install and run two Aquablocks. These Aquablocks were installed in San Pedro Sula, where it gave water to 250 families, and in El Progreso, supplying 300 families with clean water. Diseine has been a fundamental collaborator in our disaster response efforts and we would not have been able to provide these critical resources without their support.

Project Narrative

1. Construction and rejuvenation of water harvesting structures. This will include de-silting of community ponds and rivers/canals - to create capacity for storing rain water and also increase ground water recharge. Construction of gully plugs/gabion structures and surface water recharge structures to reduce water flow, leading to less surface run off and improve ground water recharge. Construction of roof top rainwater harvesting to capture and store water in community govt. school buildings which can be used to meet the water demands of the community. 2.Afforestation 3. Construction of bio toilets and drinking water systems in the government schools and the community. Bio-toilets will ensure that less water is required in the water-stressed regions. 4. Community Sensitization and Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) on Water and WASH 5. Need Assessment (Baseline) and End Line Study
