Project Overview

Water is vital to our manufacturing activities as well as to our entire value chain. Our production sites aroun the world look for innovative ways to cut day-to-day water needs. Water is vital to our manufacturing activities as well as to our entire value chain. Our production sites aroun the world look for innovative ways to cut day-to-day water needs. One example is our new Flavours plant in Pune, India, which began production in 2019 and has from day one used innovative processes to purify and recycle all of its waste water. This both avoids discharging any waste water into the surrounding environment , and cuts our consumption from the urban water system by as much as 50%. Water is treated through complex filtration processes and reused, leaving just two by-products that cannot be processed further: water, which evaporates, and dry solids that have been removed from it, which can be disposed of sustainably.

Project Narrative

We have already prototyped a knowledge platform called ÒMiraÓ (both in the form of a web application as well as an app), and are ready to start deploying amongst citizen groups. We have an active group of 2000 individuals we are in weekly communication with. For the last two years we have been running a course on lake rejuvenation that over 400 lake groups nationwide have attended. The app is based on the concept of an Òasset registryÓ that includes both natural and human capital assets, that citizens can track over time. We have partnered with FFEM, a low-cost smart-phone based company to empower citizens to conduct water quality tests. This year we are launching the Mira app and web dashboard with the necessary content, and are developing programs to keep adding content for citizens to achieve their targets. We are seeking funds to develop the app as well as the citizen mobilisation to create content.
