Our Crown Beers and Charminar breweries are located in the Sangareddy district in the state of Telangana, India. The area has faced lower than average precipitation and recent droughts and regularly faces high rainfall variability and substantial runoff. Working with local stakeholders including International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), LetÕs Endorse, the Ground Water Board and other local authorities, we are responding to these water availability challenges in 13 villages in the Sangareddy district by helping to build water storage structures including check dams, well water recharge infrastructure, rainwater harvesting structures and farm ponds and promote climate smart agriculture through water and soil conservation and management initiatives. Our aim is to increase water access to the community and increase aquifer recharge, helping to provide sufficient water for household use and irrigation, as well as enhance agriculture productivity and profitability. Since implementation of these interventions began in 2010, approximately 150,000 KL of cumulative recharge potential has been developed.

Project Narrative

Grundfos SafeWater According to the World Health Organization (WHO), between 2000-2017, 1.8 billion people have gained access to basic drinking water services, but nearly 800 million people worldwide still lack access to basic water services. One-third of the worldÕs population does not have access to safely managed water. We are pushing the envelope of commercial viability so we can place our experience at the service of the world's most water-poor communities. But how do we reach millions of people with robust, lasting water solutions, when the end-user cannot afford to pay? This is what our new business unit Grundfos SafeWater is trying to figure out. The aim for 2020 was to improve basic water access for one million people. By 2025, we aim to reach 10 million people per year Ð totaling about 25 million people in this five-year period. Based on our partners' calculations, we have reached 1,002,687 people globally, which means that we have exceeded our goal of reaching one million people this year. It is a result of great collaboration with our key partners, local governments, local NGOs and local humanitarian aid organizations.
