The project site, Mangaten, is a settlement of internally displaced persons located near the airport of the capital city Juba, and has been experiencing a continuous influx of displaced persons, but almost no assistance has been provided, resulting in poor living conditions.

1. There is a shortage of toilets, and many people are using the grass as a toilet. Contamination of soil and water by excrement has become a cause of the spread of diseases. There have been reports of women and girls being sexually assaulted while using the toilet.

2. The only well in the camp is out of order and there is a lack of clean water. A large number of residents who are unable to purchase water are using surface water that has been contaminated with sewage, including water for domestic use and feces and urine.

3. The lack of human resources and mechanisms to manage the use of water and wells has led to conflicts over water. Lack of knowledge on sanitation among the local people, and problems with sanitation of toilets and water points.
