We will create the conditions for restoration of 1.2 million hectares of Brazil's endangered Atlantic Forest in the iconic Mantiqueira Mountain range, meeting 10% of Brazil's national forest restoration commitments under the Paris climate change agreement. This project marries multiple longstanding strategies: the social capital and trust built through ten years of the São Paulo Water Fund, with the market-oriented effort to build a new restoration economy that allows rural landowners to earn a return on their land and effort by reforesting in ways that benefit nature while also producing quality tropical hardwoods and native fruits in the supplysheds of some of Latin America's largest markets. This Project aims to scale up restoration by applying new restoration technicques and decreasing restoration costs.
