The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India) is a non-denominational, non-government development organisation. AKRSP (India) works as a catalyst for the betterment of rural communities by providing direct support to local communities to promote activities and develop models for sustainable natural resource use and development of human resources. AKRSP (India) is active in over 1300 villages in three environmentally challenged and economically vulnerable States of India: Over the last two decades and through field implementations, there has been much learning for AKRSP(I) and its partner rural communities. To ensure that these lessons are shared with others (villagers, NGOs, government, bankers, donors etc), AKRSP(I) has developed strategies for ‘reaching out’. There is a limitation to the reach of any NGO through the direct implementation strategy, hence, AKRSP(I) plans to scale up indirectly through capacity building of a large number of NGO and government staff and work towards changing policies through research, networking and policy dialogue
