The WASH alliance consists of seven alliance members (Simavi, Akvo, AMREF Netherlands, RAIN, WASTE, IRC, and Wetlands International) and will work in different countries and will have specific international programme activities. The Alliance works directly with around 113 Southern partners, with 3 other northern organizations as subcontractors (Both Ends, Practica Foundation, and RUAF/ETC) and a much broader group of southern and northern Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) that cooperate within the Alliance. Complementarity is brought by strengthening civil society and bringing in innovative approaches, such as covering the full WASH chain within a new framework of sustainability, ICT solutions, and supporting WASH expertise centres on innovative technologies. Broad partnerships are built with a diverse array of actors in South and North (CSOs, knowledge institutes, financial institutions, governments, utilities and entrepreneurs). Public participation is enabled through a unique web-based reporting platform and embedded through the involvement of CSOs in the South and through public campaigning on advocacy issues by Alliance members and cooperation with private initiatives in the Netherlands.
