Project Results

•The project is expected to reverse environmental degradation caused by “disconnection” of the channels stemming from California’s Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountain ranges from the meadows and floodplains below due to the impacts of direct channel modification and unmanaged livestock grazing

• Restoring the pre-degradation elevation of the restores the hydrologic function of the floodplain system, including groundwater retention, and initiates the re-establishment of ecosystems services provided by healthy meadow floodplains

•Ecosystem benefits, particularly for native bird species, wetland species, and special-status species

•Developing a restoration economy in rural resource-dependent communities provides diversity in work opportunities for skilled timber and heavy equipment operators.
