KING III is arguably the world’s leading corporate governance standard and is a term used to refer to both “The King Report on Corporate Governance for South Africa (The Institute of Directors in Southern Africa) September 2009” and “The King Code on Corporate Governance for South Africa (The Institute of Directors in Southern Africa) September 2009”. KING III was effective in SA from 1 March 2010 and applies to all entities regardless of the manner incorporation. KING III will be superseded by King IV on 1 November 2016Inclusion of water reporting governance in King III, South Africa's Code of Corporate Governance and Social and Ethics Committees, as required by the Companies Act, 2008. 1. Currently King III recommends the publishing of integrated reports by entities of all size and incorporation (Chapter 9), push to include the water reporting guidelines in the governance framework and integrated report checklist in the requirements. 2. Currently King III Chapter 1 notes the prescribed establishment of the Social and Ethics Committee by the Companies Act, 2008 -and should include the UN water reporting guidelines in the Social and Ethics Committee governance framework. 3. Establish GovN(TM) material for the above: pro-forma governance components, guides, tool-kits and presentation material.
