The NFEPA project is a multi-partner project between CSIR, South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), Water Research Commission (WRC), Department of Water Affairs (DWA), Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA), Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), South African Institute of Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB) and South African National Parks (SANParks). The NFEPA project aims to: 1. Identify Freshwater Ecosystem Priority Areas (hereafter referred to as ‘FEPAs’) to meet national biodiversity goals for freshwater ecosystems; and 2. Develop a basis for enabling effective implementation of measures to protect FEPAs, including free-flowing rivers.
