The district of Villa María del Triunfo has a high water stress, arid most of the year. It has rates of extreme poverty of 0.8% and extreme poverty of 20.3%.
In winter, the hill Las Tunas is covered with mist.

The initiative seeks to benefit the community organization ASALL, which is formed by 120 families grouped dedicated to the production of fruits intended for sale or personal consumption. This organization depends in an important way on the water that can be supplied by tank trucks during the summer and spring, but the price is high and they can only store water in small tanks of 1000 liters. The activities developed during 2014 include installation 30 fog catchers and the construction of 3 reservoirs of 32 m3 each, one for each 10 fog catchers.

Project Results

  • 96 m3 a year of recovered fog water for crop irrigation, benefiting 305 people
  • 120 peasant families of the Llanavilla Agroindustrial Association ASALL, strengthened in organization

Investment/period

  • UNACEM contributed with 18,788 USD, 17,576 for the construction of reservoirs and 1,212 for technical assistance
  • The organization "Movimiento Peruanos sin Agua", USAID and the Lindley Corporation supported the construction of fog catchers and training and
  • technical assistance in its construction
  • The ASALL community organization contributed with labor
