Conserve Natural Forests (CNF) is a non-profit NGO operating primarily in Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai Provinces of Northern Thailand. Our mission is to restore natural forest landscapes throughout Thailand to optimal structure, functionality, and resiliency in ways that protect and enhance biodiversity, self-regulate landscape ecological functions, and improve the livelihoods of local communities in the long term. Our mission would not be possible without the support and knowledge we share with both local and global stakeholders. We work with a diverse network that includes smallholders, local businesses, schools, Buddhist temples, community forest coalitions, local government, the Royal Forestry Department (RFD), and the Royal Thai Military. Conserve Natural Forests is tax-deductible in Thailand, Germany, and other European Countries!

Project Narrative

MAIN CHALLENGE Poor soils, enriching the soils for better growth. SITE OWNERSHIP Small Holding. Sachawaysa Kichwa community (Communidad Kichwa 9 de Junio) since 2017 CAUSE OF DEGRADATION Cutting of forest by the Archidona mission, and ranchers planting pasture grass to raise and sell cattle. WHY THIS SITE? This site connects to their ecotourism cabins, and to their community center. There is a strong community sentiment to reforest this former cattle pasture which provides nothing, with dozens of ancestral species, which can provide food, nuts, palm thatch, medicines and can be used for handcrafts. LONG TERM PROTECTION The plot structure and diversity will be a direct extension of Kichwa ancestral culture. It will be maintained for the food and other useful products it provides. It will also provide a beautiful, agreeable, and educational area to show tourists local native trees and for Sachawaysa children to play
