BIER has been talking about this kind of on-the-ground water collaboration for a while as a natural extension of its portfolio of benchmarking, best practice sharing, and tools/guidance development. It was clear to members, based on the opportunities and risks, that now was the time to make a joint basin collaboration happen. BIER members share a belief that we need less talk and more action if weÕre to overcome our shared water challenges throughout the world. Members wanted to demonstrate that water is so important that competitors can come together within a local market, and if they can come together, everyone can come together. Members wanted to test a new, agile, and locally empowered framework to catalyze action. They felt, if successful, this could be the seed for something better in the world of water stewardship, and at a minimum, provides another viable water stewardship framework for companies and others to consider. From the beginning, BIER wanted to think big and long-term, and, start small and build momentum to enable more impact later.

Project Narrative

The farms participating in the program are located in an isolated valley and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is hoping to gain an understanding of how these technologies can positively impact the South Platte River watershed when implemented on a large area of farms. Costs associated with VRI and AIS include the purchase of the equipment, the upkeep of the equipment, and data charges. Coca-Cola funding was previously used toward equipment costs, which is cost-shared with the producers
