Nestlé tiene el convencimiento de que su futuro depende del uso responsable de los recursos naturales, prueba de ello es que en la fábrica de Lima tiene construida una planta de tratamiento de agua con el objetivo de verter aguas limpias al sistema de desagüe de la capital. El agua que la empresa descarga podría utilizarse para otros fines, por ello Nestlé considera importante destinar parte de la producción de agua residual tratada para riego de áreas verdes en el distrito del Cercado de Lima.

El objetivo de Nestlé con esta iniciativa es que el agua tratada se utilice en el riego de parques y jardines, responde a la necesidad de mejorar las condiciones ambientales de los espacios urbanos, como: déficit per cápita de área verde, déficit de agua para el riego de áreas verdes, uso inadecuado del agua de riego, infraestructura inadecuada para la producción de plantas ornamentales, limitada disponibilidad de plantas ornamentales así como la insuficiente sensibilidad de la población en el desarrollo ambiental de sus entornos locales.

Frente a la problemática descrita, la donación de agua tratada proveniente de la PTAR de la Fábrica de Nestlé para el riego y el desarrollo sostenible de los espacios verdes urbanos constituye una alternativa viable que permitirá mejorar las condiciones ambientales locales y contribuirá a elevar la calidad de vida de la población beneficiaria.
