This was a beverage production plant in Asia that is a subsidiary of a multinational beverage producer.

The plant was commissioned in 2014 and treated effluent complied with permitted constraints. As production increased there was an unexpected rise in nitrates and phosphates in the wastewater discharge which could not be removed by existing treatment plant to satisfy regulatory requirements.

The installed biological wastewater treatment works and installed capacity of aeration tanks were sufficient. The anoxic tanks proved to lack capacity to treat the residual Nitrates and Phosphates.

Using the Waterhound software, engineers were able to investigate alternatives and iterate to a solution, which saved the company 11.5% in operating costs.
