Based in north-east Zambia, the Chambeshi Water Security Partnership (CWSP) was created in 2017 to ensure continued sound water management in the region while agricultural activities are intensifying. The partnership aims to ensure that water resources are governed, protected, and developed in a professional and participatory manner, contributing to water security for sustainable social and economic development. With over 10 partners, CWSP backs the establishment and strengthening of water management processes at the catchment level. Partners also support capacity building of farmers, rural access to water, and awareness raising activities next to the implementation of AWS by one of the private sector partners, Olam.

The partnership has ten members: Chambeshi Water and Sewerage Company, Forestry Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs, Kasama Municipal Council, the Netherlands Development Organisation, OLAM, GIZ, Water Resources Management Authority and World Vision Zambia.

Project Results

The partnership has raised awareness of water issues in the local community, particularly around sustainable water use for agriculture. The partnership continues to strengthen water governance in the catchment while supporting local farmers in sound water management.
