Project Overview

We establish preventive actions to start minimizing the potential risks. Site-specific targets will support these actions and ensure that we reach our goals. Increased investment in new technology and infrastructure as follows:- usage of washing water for the air conditioning (saving about 18.000 m3/a)- improved filtration of rain water for RO-water production (saving about 10.000 m3/a)- replacement of the pre-treatment and KTL of the paint shop (saving about 36.000 m3/a)- i…

We establish preventive actions to start minimizing the potential risks. Site-specific targets will support these actions and ensure that we reach our goals. Increased investment in new technology and infrastructure as follows:- usage of washing water for the air conditioning (saving about 18.000 m3/a)- improved filtration of rain water for RO-water production (saving about 10.000 m3/a)- replacement of the pre-treatment and KTL of the paint shop (saving about 36.000 m3/a)- improved water recycling due to the usage of DAF (saving about 40.000 m3/a)- more applications for rainwater (saving about 7.500 m3/a). These actions should minimize the water demand of the site further and secure the water supply. From 2010 to 2017 the water demand of the site was already decreased by 26%. Furthermore the Izta-Popo-Project includes the reforestation of 7.5 km2 of Izta-Popo hillsides and a monitoring of the local fauna, which increases the groundwater renewal. Involved in the project are Volkswagen, its suppliers, the government and local water suppliers.

Project Results

Have reduced demand by 26% and will continue to gain efficiencies in water use.
