Center for Research in Environmental Resource Management (CREMA) RC No. 1426794; Not for Profit Organization Registered Office: Workers MPCS Building, Health Centre Road, Delta State University, P.O. Box 210, Abraka, Delta State, Nigeria. CREMA has been set up to contribute towards the sustainable management and conservation of the environment – air, land, water and associated natural systems on which all life depends. CREMA thus supports research by individuals, as well as undertakes research of her own or in collaboration with individuals / organizations in areas that have been identified by the Governing Board as deserving of attention and specifically in the public space. Research and project implementation may also be undertaken at the behest of clients that seek to make use of the excellent resources and services available at CREMA. The main strength of CREMA is in the large pool of academics from various disciplines in the very many institutions in Nigeria who share our philosophy, are available to us and have agreed in principle to channel this potential resource into the design of pragmatic solutions for application to the many environmentally related development problems that plague our nation. Research will usually be used to provide evidence in recommendations for policy reform, formulation of new policies and advocacy as they affect livelihoods; identify and design solutions to pressing problems and implementation of such solutions or simply to fulfil the objectives specified by clients. Research results are usually prepared as Project Reports and where appropriate published in peer reviewed academic journals. CREMA has a very strong water resources and water supply base; staff each have many individual years of experience in the water sector. Our founding Executive Director, Tony Akpoborie for example is a Professor of Hydrogeology and Water Resources and whose many years of experience in research, consulting and in the field are part of the motivation for setting up CREMA. CREMA started operations informally in 2013 as a group of like-minded academics in an informal “Center for Research in Water and Environment (CREWE)”. Unfortunately, the approval process required a name change from CREWE to CREMA (the name approved by the Corporate Affairs Commission). In the interim however, CREWE has been successfully involved water research problems as an organisation, a listing of which can be provided on request.
