The Diocese of Satna, which was bifurcated from the Diocese of Jabalpur, came into existence the year 1977. Social Work activities had been initiated since its inception in the year 1968 as an Exarchate. “Samaritan Social Service Society”, the social arm of the Diocese was established and registered, under the Madhya Pradesh Societies Registration Act in the year 1993, as a separate wing to carry on the social development activities as a part of the commitment of the Church to serve the poorest, the deprived, and the challenged. The Bishop of Satna, Mar Mathew Vaniakizhakkel is the President and Fr. Mathew Cheruvil is the present Secretary of the Society. Samaritan Social Service Society (SSSS) is registered under Societies Registration Act having its office at Pateri, Mahadeva, P.O, Satna – 485002, MP. It is also registered under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), under the Ministry of Home Affairs to receive foreign fund. Presently, it covers 7 districts of Madhya Pradesh state. SSSS has successfully spread different programmes like women empowerment, educational programmes, watershed programmes, health programmes etc. in these districts.
