Mission: Conservation of environmental resources and livelihood enhancement. Water Project Location: Phagi District, near Jaipur, Rajasthan, India Details - This project is focused in a region where the groundwater table had dried out and the little available water was high in Fluoride. - Advit made a marked difference in 20 villages in Rajasthan, with a population of about 3000 in each, i.e. more than 60,000 individuals in total. -Under this project, water was made available in all these villages by constructing eight anicuts (small check dams). Together, these have recharged approximately 100,000 cu.m of water. Before the building of check dams, the women in these villages had to walk at least 5km to fetch water. -In addition to constructing check dams, Water user groups were created and villagers were provided training to enable them to maintain the structures themselves. - As a result of this initiative, the water table of the region has improved considerably. Women have to walk lesser to get water. The soil moisture has increased; as a result the cropping pattern has become twice a year, thereby enhancing income of the villagers. -This project was awarded best “Beyond the Fence” water conservation project by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in 2009. -Advit is working continuously in a PPP model to make this project sustainable and replicable. - We have successfully brought together people from the local community and nearby industries to work with us towards the goal of achieving water sustainability in the region.
