Project Overview

The International Water Stewardship Programme (IWaSP) seeks to initiate multi-stakeholder partnerships with the private sector, the public sector and the civil society in order to formulate and implement measures to improve water security for all parties. Woolworth and M&S receive their fruits from farmers in the Upper Breede Catchment where water risks exist. The International Water Stewardship Programme (IWaSP) seeks to initiate multi-stakeholder partnerships with the private sector, the public sector and the civil society in order to formulate and implement measures to improve water security for all parties. Woolworth and M&S receive their fruits from farmers in the Upper Breede Catchment where water risks exist. In order to mitigate these risks Woolworths and M&S have entered a partnership together with civil society organizations (WWF), the AWS (Alliance for Water Stewardship) and governmental institutions (BGCMA). Different measures are been implemented like: mapping of invasive species, improved wastewater management, on-farm education for water saving cultivation methods, uptake and use of the AWS online tool and dissemination of lessons learned.

Project Results

Expected outcomes are: 1.AWS online tool is tested with farmers; 2.Invasive species have been mapped; 3.Pollution in townships around Ceres have been improved; 4.The AWS online tool and standard is communicated (outside project area) for wider uptake.
