The Clorox Safe Water Project has been operating in the Northern Region of Peru since 2012 (Piura – Tambogrande), installing public bleach dispensers to disinfect microbiologically contaminated drinking water collected from community water sources, as well as providing health and hygiene education to project communities. The goal is to build an effective, scalable and sustainable model that local communities could adopt to improve the quality of their drinking water and reduce the rate of intestinal illness. In partnership with PRISMA, The Clorox Company currently supports the Safe Water Project in 21 rural communities, reaching 25,000 people.

Project Results

25,000 people have received access to safe water through the program, as well as related education on the importance of safe water and related health and hygiene practices to help reduce intestinal illness. To-date, household participation rates have exceeded 50%.
