Mondi has invested some million rand in increasing the recycling capacity of water used at the mill and has installed water stewards for each department. Specific water consumption has been reduced by a further 9.8 % in 2016 compared to 2015 and is meeting industrial best available standards. Additionally, in 2016 a water stewardship assessment according AWS standard has been carried out by an external consultant and included also engagement with communities and other stakeholders, such as agriculture, neighbours and suppliers. Currently we are working on the gap analysis. We are also investigating alternatives to increase water reuse by various options for example recycling of waste water. Such investments would reduce the withdrawal of fresh water from Goedertrouw dam. If any of these options prove feasible, the investment would cost more than 1 million € depending on the size of the plant.
