The International Water Stewardship Programme (IWaSP) seeks to initiate multi-stakeholder partnerships with the private sector, the public sector and the civil society in order to formulate and implement measures to improve water security for all parties. In the region of the Wabooms and Herolds River Catchments hops farmers face water scarcity. A partnership with private entities like a local timber company and SAB Miller breweries, public institutions (DEA, BGCMA) and local farmers and landholders is implementing measures to improve sustainably water security for all users. These measures include among others river restoration, groundwater monitoring, on-farm trainings for water saving cultivation methods and clearing of alien species.

Project Results

Expected outcomes are: 1.Establish long-term water resource monitoring system; 2.Improve water-use efficiency on farms ; 3.Establish inclusive water stewardship structure for coordinated responses to shared risks; 4.Improve skills and capacity in the broader stakeholder group; 5.Create resilient landscape, cleared of alien vegetation.
