The project is focused on; improving water safety and security in the Mara River Basin, supporting structural poverty reduction and sustainable economic growth, and ecosystem conservation. The project implementation is a public-private partnership including international and Kenyan government institutions, led by UNESCO-IHE, together with WWF Kenya.

Project ResultsThe programme aims to: i) Support formulation of new water management strategies; ii) Strengthen public, private, and civil society-actors responsible for implementing the strategy; iii) Pilot and support adoption of innovative and sustainable approaches to use water more efficiently, and reduce pollution; iv) Create a water fund to support payments for ecosystem services and secure long-term financing for water management interventions; v) Establish a regional knowledge centre for water and equip it with new tools and technologies to support continued water resources management.
