WWF has a water stewardship team in Shanghai that focuses on the Yangtze. Through our work with WWF, we know that significant collective action is underway in the basin. The largest threats include pollution, 105 large dams planned or under construction, inter-basin water transfer and other water infrastructure, over-fishing and illegal fishing. In 2017, Hilton initiated context-based water pilot programs in collaboration with WWF to promote stewardship in high water risk areas in the U.S., South Africa and China. Due to the risks and the high focus on development in China, China was selected as one of Hilton's initial pilot locations. So far, an in-depth risk analysis has been carried out, including gathering information about actions taken to date, local stakeholders and impacts seen from the local water crisis. This information has been used to create a set of recommendations for actions which is being reviewed to determine priorities for activation.
