Transworld Publishers Ltd. are the publishers of Africa Water, Sanitation & Hygiene, a bi-monthly magazine.The publication is designed to bring together and tap the skills of Africa’s scientists and a broad range of personnel in other disciplines and address Africa’s water issues, look for solutions and strategize for the future’s long term sustainability for water resources development. The publication is a hub of knowledge sharing and development and also dissemination of information to all the stakeholders in the water sector down to the community level. The publication also focuses on a vast array of environmental and health lists that may periodically address water resources issues. The publication is non-political, non-partisan and solicits for information freely for public consumption. It is free and not to be sold to ensure that nobody is disadvantaged in accessing the information. The Africa Water, Sanitation & Hygiene is a not-for-profit development publication. The Africa Water, Sanitation & Hygiene is registered as a trademark with Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) in accordance with the Trade Marks Act Cap 506 of the Law of Kenya under Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks. It is also registered at the Attorney General’s Chambers under Books and Newspapers Rule (Cap III Rule 4(2)) here in Nairobi. The Africa Water, Sanitation & Hygiene is the only publication in the sub-region that addresses water and sanitation issues. Publishing Policy The reforms in the water sector continue to generate a lot of information and knowledge which need to be accurately reported from an independent perspective. In certain cases facts may be misrepresented in order to justify the investments while in reality no significant achievements are being realized. The achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and in this case MDG number 7 on environmental sustainability reference 10 on water and sanitation relies on accurate information exchange to create awareness for positive change on livelihoods. The Africa Water, Sanitation & Hygiene magazine is operating on a policy that ensures fairness in information dissemination. The policy guidelines of the magazine are as follows: Vision: A society up to date with current status of knowledge in the water, effective knowledge exchange and aware of the impact of their interventions on water resources and able to sustainable use water to improve their livelihoods. Mission: (1) Through information exchange and awareness creation, keep the society informed on the progress being realized in the water sector so that they can develop their capacity and knowledge base to manage water to meet their livelihood needs for posterity. (2) Communicate this knowledge effectively through a range of appropriately designed services, using the Internet (web and email) as the main communication medium for delivery Goals: Everyone has access to information and capable of using it and sharing it with others and ensures sustainable use and management of water to improve his or her living conditions. Objectives: The objectives of the magazine are as follows • Create awareness on the progress made in the water sector reforms • Educate water users and managers on knowledge development in the water sector • Be a custodian of information that can be used in monitoring progress towards achieving MDGs • Sensitize water users on water management principles for sustainability in water resources management • To create behaviour change on water use and stereotype mentality on water as a resource • To generate interest in water sector for resource mobilization and investments in management of water • To encourage water use for improvement of income, diversification of livelihood opportunities and reduction of poverty • To encourage gender parity in water resources management and use and enhanced stakeholder participation • Create on the emerging issues and challenges in the water sector proposed intervention to address them Print run: 55,000 copies are printed in every issue. Distribution The Africa Water, Sanitation & Hygiene is distributed free of charge in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda to all water sector stakeholders including Government Ministries, Water Services Providers, Water Boards, Municipal Councils, NGO’s ,UN Agencies, Water and Sanitation Program of the World Bank etcetera and the public at large.
