WaterNow and the City of Golden began this project to develop a graywater ordinance and demonstration projects to allow for – and encourage the adoption of – residential laundry-to-landscape (L2L) graywater systems. A secondary purpose was to develop resources for other communities interested in implementing a similar ordinance and program. WaterNow’s partners, Western Resource Advocates (WRA) provided support for this project through separate funding sources. Our project included five phases: 1) research existing graywater programs and Colorado specific regulations; 2)draft ordinance language; 3) engage with local stakeholders; 4)finalize graywater ordinance language andpresent to Council; 5) develop graywater program outreach and education plan; and 6) support demonstration projects.
